Okay, Henry is trying to go to sleep in his room and Kyle is watching football, so I have a minute to update.
Henry has been a real struggle lately. He is just testing everything and asserting his will whenever possible. He decided that he was done with his crib and wanted to sleep on the huge queen sized futon we were storing in his room while trying to sell it. It is a really nice double stuffed, organic cotton futon-but I can't imagine wanting to sleep on it. Unfortunately, this has caused some sleep issues. He has been getting up most nights between 2-3am and wanting to play for a couple of hours. It is hell trying to get him back down. I have caved and started nursing him during these spells again. I just want to go back to sleep! Tonight is our first night of breaking that habit and trying to get him to go to sleep on his own again. He has been in his bed whining for about 5 minutes now, but suprizingly, he hasn't gotten out of bed to knock on the door. It sounds like he might have gone to sleep. I know it will only take a couple of nights of consistancy, but I hate it anyway. Not more than being up for 2 hours every night, but still.
I am on a mission to lose this last 10 lbs of baby weight. No, I'm serious this time-I just turned down Strawberry Cheesecake Ben & Jerry's-it doesn't get more serious than that. I started a hiking group for mamas in the area and we are going to do at least a hike a week. We went yesterday and did about 3 miles. That is a lot with 30lbs of toddler and backpack strapped to your back! We hiked around Lake Powhatan and then let the boys out to play in the water. Little did I know that they would egg each other on and end up wading in up to their thighs and getting soaked from head to toe. They were having so much fun we couldn't stop them. Unfortunately, I used my spare diaper as soon as we got to the trailhead, so I had no diaper to replace the one filled with 10lbs of lake water. I ended up taking off my t-shirt, wrapping it around his bum Tarzan style and finishing the hike in my camisole. We made it home without an accident though, thankfully. Today Kyle and I went on a bike ride. We got Henry one of those little seats that attach to the back of the bike. He loves it. Every time we go on the porch, he points at it and screams "RIIIIIDE". And his little helmet is too cute. Anyway, I thought I was going to die on our ride. My legs were already sore from the hike, and they started rebelling about halfway through our ride. It feels kind of good to be sore, though.
I got into a pretty hideous fight with my mother in law last week. It is a long story, but it all comes down to me being tired of her passive agressive manipulations and I called her on it. Finally. After 7 years. It got ugly for a minute, but I managed to be polite while not giving up any ground, and eventually she actually apologized and said I had "proved my mettle". I am hoping this will be a good place to clean the slate of all my old resentments and try to start new. Newish.
There is more, but Kyle has turned off the game and is beckoning me to go watch The Ballad of Jack and Rose.
Sleep tight.

When I was a kid my mom used to ride me around on a seat on her bike but she was never a great rider. One day when we were going over the river she lost control of the bike and hit the railing and I still remember sitting in that little seat staring at the river waiting to fall in. Hee.

I have some pics of Henry in his helmet, but not on the bike. Gimme your email (I can't find it in my address book) and I'll send them to you. It's pretty dern cute, lol.
